Tight relation with microsoft doesn't have to be a requirement.

Take <a href="hanselman.com/.../">Scot Hanselman</a>, one of my favorite authorities when it comes to asp.net and microsoft technologies in general:

- He was a long time employee at Corillian as software architect (although he's now a microsoft employee)

- He's one of the key contributors to DasBlog (open source asp.net blogging engine)

- He's a host of a popular <a href="www.hanselminutes.com/.../a> where he talks on various themes with main focus on .net

There are more "evangelists" similar to his profile that are (sometimes) even <a href="classicvb.org/.../">openly confronted</a> with microsoft and their idea for .net technologies.

Probably much powerfull implementation can be found using WCFS (www.codeplex.com/.../View.aspx) or even with ASP.NET MVC Framework, but it's still in beta (quickstarts.asp.net/.../MVCOverview.aspx)
